Your story about the SDLC was a fascinating read for me. Though I'm not into tech things like you, I am very much aware of the basic scientific formula for investigating things, and it's got quite a parallel to your SDLC Diagram:

Problem > Hypothesis > Experiment > Result > New problem > Experiment > etc etc.
