It's a device for showing honesty - that this story is in fact a revived/refreshed old story and the best place to show this info is at the end of a story .

You might state (again) the story's title, plus date and copyright marker, then give the old title (and date) for final clarification.

There's an example on my home page:

If you read: "Can You Say 'I am Blessed?' ..." you will see it there (at the end) - but also, within the article itself, there's an explanation by way of a special "News Flash" in the early part of the story.
