So true Roger ... so very true.

Following this quote you go on to sort-of criticize those who choose to respect the acknowledged chosen day of celebration for the birth of Jesus, which I think is a bit shallow (and cheap).

As someone who does 'follow' Jesus (or at least tries to), I do recognize that you are of course correct. But so what? There are far more important aspects to the life of Jesus than the exact date of his birth (and even tales of his birth in Bethlehem surely get it wrong, with their inconsistences and different viewpoints.

No, all these things are comparative trivia compared to the man himself. As Mahatma Ganhi once said:

"I believe in the fundamental Truth of all great religions of the world. And I believe that if only we could, all of us, read the scriptures of the different Faiths from the stand-point of the followers of those faiths, we should find that they were at the bottom, all one and were all helpful to one another."

And of Jesus, Gandhi (who himself was a Hindu) also said:

"To me, He was one of the greatest teachers, humanity has ever had", and, regarding the biblical quote: 'Make this world the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness and everything will be added unto you' (Matthew 6: 33) - "I tell you that if you will understand, appreciate and act up to the spirit of this passage, you would not even need to know what place Jesus or any other teacher occupies in your heart" ... "If you will.., clean and purify your heart and get it ready, you will find that all these mighty Teachers will take their places without invitation from us".

I think that I am a follower of Gandhi too hey?!
