I took this picture and several others in 2013 on a visit to White Sands National Park and White Sands Missile Range (WSMR) in New Mexico, USA.

WSMR was initially set up as a military testing and proving ground in 1945 .

WSMR’s MISSION STATEMENT:
White Sands Missile Range, Dept. of Defence’s largest, fully-instrumented, open air range, provides America’s Armed Forces, allies, partners, and defence technology innovators with the world’s premiere research, development, test, evaluation, experimentation, and training facilities to ensure our nation’s defence readiness.

The name: “White Sands” doesn’t do it full justice … my name for it would be: “Amazingly Spectacular Brilliant-White Wonderland” (ASBW) … it is so much like a snow-scene from the arctic, except, it’s hot, hot, hot, very hot!
